Fossil fuels are currently the predominant source of energy for heating our homes and powering our cars. Coal, oil and natural gas are “conventional” energy sources, which are readily available to meet our needs. However, these are limited resources and the increasing demand for energy will inevitably lead to them becoming depleted. We also know that their use has significant repercussions in environmental terms, most importantly the greenhouse effect.
The events of recent weeks are showing how vulnerable the conventional energy market is to geopolitical changes, bringing back the issue of energy independence to the forefront of the political agenda in different countries.
