
Gender equality is the fifth goal on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development signed in 2015 by the governments of 193 U.N. Member States. This plan of action for people, planet and prosperity sets out 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) to be achieved, each divided into smaller targets.
Gender equality is not only a fundamental human right but also a necessary basis for peace and wellness. The female gender actually represents half of the global population and, consequently, accounts for half of the world’s human resources. This means, for example, that access to decent work and a regular income not only contribute to reducing poverty but also to improving the education, health and nutrition of women, girls and anyone depending on them.
